First project/blog post
Posted July 1, 2025
Well, first blog post. Im currently working on restoring my 1993~ SNES or (Super Nintendo Entertainment System) for the non-gamers. but first, the funniest story of how i found it.
The background story.
It was a couple weeks into June and my Wife's younger brother was having a graduation party from High School, and this party was near my old house in northern Illinois. My dad was cleaning up some things from the old house, and I had asked him if he could retrieve my brothers XBOX 360 from the house because ive been on a retro-ish kick. He called me when my wife and I arrived at the party to come pick up the "Xbox" and he left it outside, and also told me it was in bad shape.
Pictured below is the "xbox"

The teardown
I started by taking off the case as recommended by the reddit post i had made, Reddit Post. and had given it a deep clean with alcohol 99% and baking soda(thanks to the wife). Under the hood, it was pretty rusty and corroded.

Next I inspected the screws to the motherboard and determined they were all rusted. WD40 worked in this spot. The only one I couldnt get was to the voltage regulator so I desoldered the 3 feet attached to the board. I was able to remove all screws that needed to be removed so I can extract the board. (One of them broke, oopsies). Since this console was outside in the backyard shed for close to 25 years, I didnt bother checking the capacitors and other components and ordered a capacitor set on Ebay. Upon further inspection, I will have to remove the rusted channel switch, and either find a replacement, or remove the piece completely. I will make another blog post once I get all the parts recieved. Below is the power regulator, and the detached motherboard.
